This paper proposes algorithms for improving the synchronization of 8-vestigial sideband modulation (VSB) systems in multipath channels. These algorithms have a good performance in severe channels like Brazilian test channels. Also a proposed multi-loop filter improves the convergence speed of phase-lock loop (PLL) and reduces jitter in a steady state response. A carrier frequency recovery and a symbol timing recovery compensate offsets fast and have little jitter after convergence in Brazilian test channels with large offsets.
